Tottenham have reached an agreement for Igor Tudor to become their interim manager until the end of the season, leaving the door open for Mauricio Pochettino to return this summer.

The club turned to Tudor after making checks on the former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic and the former RB Leizpig manager Marco Rose. The former Croatia international has been out of work since he left Juventus in October after the Serie A club went eight games without a win. His former clubs as a coach also include Lazio and Marseille.

Tottenham sacked Thomas Frank this week and wanted an experienced coach with a proven track record of making an instant impact. If successful Tudor will have a chance of landing the job on a permanent basis in the summer.

Pochettino, who is preparing to charge of the US at the World Cup, had five excellent years at Spurs before leaving in 2019 and has been open about wanting to return. The Argentinian remains a favourite with supporters, who chanted his name during Tuesday’s home defeat by Newcastle.

Spurs have given their players time off until Monday because they are without a match this weekend after their exit from the FA Cup last month. They are five points above the bottom three and sacked Frank after a run of two wins in 17 league games.
